Location and Travel
The Museum is located in Ely Cathedral. It is accessed by a stone spiral staircase (40 stairs). For those unable to access the Museum, a touchscreen virtual tour is available on the ground floor.
There are coach drop-off bays directly outside the main doors of the Cathedral (CB7 4DL). Further bays and long term coach parking are available in Barton Road Car Park (CB7 4DX) which is only a 5 minute walk from the Cathedral.
Group leaders and accompanying adults are responsible for the general health and safety of their group and should remain with them at all times in our building and during any emergency evacuations. We recommend the following adult to child ratios:
0 - 2 years -one adult to three children
2 - 3 years - one adult to four children
4 - 8 years - one adult to six children
9 - 12 years - one adult to eight children
13 - 18 years - one adult to ten children
(based on current NSPCC guidelines)
We reserve the right to refuse entry when the level of adult supervision falls short of a ratio of 1:15.
Toilet and lunch facilities are shared with Ely Cathedral. The toilets are located on the ground floor of Ely Cathedral.
Groups are very welcome to visit our shop, please request this at the point of booking. You can also pre-order ready-assembled souvenir goody bags, please ask for more information when you book.
Risk Assessment and Safeguarding
View our Safeguarding Policy
A copy of our Risk Assessment Advice for Teachers and Group Leaders will be sent with your booking confirmation. This is a guide only and is not intended to replace your own risk assessment or any paperwork you are required to complete for your school. We encourage you to share copies of your risk assessment with all of your accompanying adults.
We encourage parents and adults supervising groups to take photographs of their own children. If you have great images of your visit, we would love to see them - please share them on our Facebook page and Twitter. On some occasions the Museum would like to take images of children participating in our workshops for publicity and marketing. Permission will always be sought from parents and supervising adults before doing this
Your feedback helps us to improve and expand the educational programming that we offer. We will send you a short evaluation form by email after your visit.
