LEADING AND GLAZING
Leading and Glazing Workshop
One Day Glazing/Leading Workshop with Claire Hart
For upcoming workshop dates visit our What's On page.
The Old Dispensary, 13 St. Mary's Street, Ely, CB7 4ER
The Old dispensary is located in Ely, on St Mary's Street opposite a short stay car park. Please wait at the entrance door where someone will come and greet you and let you in.
About the workshop
You will be given an introduction to the techniques employed in the manufacture of an ornamental leaded panel of about 30 x 30 cm (12" x 12") size. If you have been on a stained glass painting workshop at the Museum you may like to lead up a panel incorporating your own piece of stained glass.
All materials (glass, lead, solder etc. are provided) and tools are available for the use of the participants, although you may prefer to bring your own. You will be taken through each step of the process of constructing a panel and will practise the techniques before making your own panel.
The morning will be primarily spent learning to cut glass along cutlines provided (though you are welcome to bring your own simple design). Once all your glass pieces are cut to size and shape, you will then be shown how to piece them together using lead joints and solder.
Lunch: There may be up to an hour’s break for lunch. Lunch is not provided, but there are many nearby cafes and sandwich shops or you can bring a packed lunch.
[What to bring:] You may like to wear old clothes or overalls.
Physical Ability: Please note this workshop requires participants to stand and work at a workbench so a reasonable level of fitness and physical ability is required.
Health & Safety: Please note that, because of the lead content in the solder, this workshop is not suitable if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
Cost: £95 per person including materials, equipment and tuition
Friends of the Museum receive 10% discount
Suitable for age 18+
How to book: Please contact us for further details or to book a place on this workshop.
Meet the Tutor
Claire Hart studied Ceramics and Glass at Middlesex Poly in the mid 1980s completing her sandwich year at Goddard and Gibbs in London. She then moved into studio space at the Southbank Crafts Centre in London and exhibited her mixed media ceramic and leaded glass pieces at various galleries in the UK. After an IRA bomb removed the front window of her craft centre Claire moved north to establish a Stained Glass Studio in North London doing mainly residential commissions and restorations.
